Bench work & Fitting: Bench Vice, Fitting tools, drilling machine and various fitting operations like filing, chipping, scraping, sawing, marking and marking tools, drilling & tapping.
Measurement and measuring tools. Precision Instruments, Gauges, cutting tools and operations, Measuring Instruments: Inside & Outside Callipers, Vernier Callipers, Micrometers and their least count calculation, reading methods and uses. Slip Gauges and their uses.
Geometry of single point cutting tools, tool signature, machinability, tool failure, tool life & cutting fluids
Lathe Machine: Classification of lathe machines, working principle, constructional features, driving mechanism, attachments and accessories, various operations performed on lathe machines, types of cutting tools & tool material. Estimation of machining time
Milling Machine: Working principle, constructional features, types of milling machines, driving mechanism, attachments and accessories, various operations performed on milling machines, various types of milling cutters. Estimation of machining time.
Type of Threads: Metric, BSW, Pipe etc.
Angular Measurement: Bevel Protractors, Sine bars & their uses.
ENGINEERING DRAWING-I (50 Marks)
Introduction to IS Standard, A – system of paper, folding of drawings, dividing of sheets, sheet layout, title blocks
Drawing tools, lettering, types of lines &their application, dimensioning, scales Isometric & orthographic projections Symbols and representation for surface finish, geometrical tolerances, welding etc.
Projection: Isometric to orthographic conversion & vice-versa, problems on finding missing views.
Sections: Cutting planes, hatching, various methods of sectioning
WORKSHOP CALCULATION & SCIENCE-I (25 Marks)
Percentage: Introduction, Representation of decimal number into percentage, conversion of percentage into rational form, Applications
Ratio and Proportion: Introduction, Simple ratio, Applications
L.C.M & H.C.F, Vulgar Fractions, decimal Fractions, Square Roots & Cube roots, Simplification, Averages, Time & Work
Time & Distances, Indices & Logarithms, algebra.
Mechanical properties & Tests: strength, ductility, hardness, toughness, malleability, elasticity, plasticity
Introduction to Carbon steel, stainless steel, tool steels, Cast irons
Introduction to non-Ferrous Materials: Aluminium alloys, Copper alloys: Brasses, bronzes, gun metal, babbit metal, their properties and uses
EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS-I (25 Marks)
Words, Sentences, form of sentences, Kind of sentences, Singular & plural, forms of verbs, parts of speech : Noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, prepositions, conjunction, interjection along with examples.
Tenses: present/ past/ future. Structure of tense along with example.
Vocabulary building. Reference skills – dictionary, thesaurus, building word-power, spelling, meaning and usage of words, antonyms, synonyms, prefixes & suffixes, words with silent letters, words commonly mis-spelt, words commonly confused with.
TRADE THEORY-II (100 Marks)
Grinding machines and Operations: Types of grinding machines such as bench, pedestal, cylindrical, centreless, surface, internal, universal, tool & cutter grinding machines; machining time calculation.
Common forms of abrasive tools such as sticks, stones, pastes & wheels. Grinding wheels and their specifications, marking system, wheel selection criteria, balancing, mounting, dressing & truing of wheels.
Introduction to boring, shaping, broaching. surface finishing operations such as lapping, honing, polishing, buffing. Basics of various metal joining methods: Screw fastening, riveting, welding, soldering, brazing.

Basic principles of heat treatment of steel, objective and purpose of heat treatment
Heat treatment processes: Hardening, tempering, annealing, normalising, hardenability
Heat treatment of alloy steels and important tool and die steels, defects occurring during heat treatment processes and possible remedial measures
Elementary Trigonometry: Introduction, Definitions, Trigonometric ratio of angles, Fundamental identities, Angle Measurement
